Raij, Raj, Rajby, Raii ...
« on: februari 01, 2013, 09:25:57 pm »

I have Raj/Rajby names dating back to 1652, 1663, 1658, etc.  The data was found in the book Befolkning i Jakobstad.  I also have later names found in Esse and Pedersöre.

I read that Simon Marcusson from Raij in Esse moved to Strömmen (Karby) and later the name Raj was used in that place.
Was Karby not using Raij before Simon Marcusson moved there ?

I don't have a Simon Markusson.. there is one in the Befolkning i Jakobstad book, but it says he was from Säkiemäki by in Rautalampi.  I found an Isak Thomasson, b. 1727 in Karby, Nykarleby, d. 1782..who was son of Thomas Jöransson, b. ca 1709, d. 1769, Karby, Nykarleby.... he had 5 children who used the Raij name...they were b. 1727-1742.   I don't know anything about the origin of the Raij/Rajby name.. sorry.
