Title: Österback familjen i Ömossa Sideby
Post by: Jbacka on March 14, 2014, 05:38:36 PM
Hi there, min svensk är kanske lite dålight, tyvärr. Its better that I continue with english. I've done my genealogy research from my grandmother ancestors and they are now located to Ömossa region in Sideby. I believe that near gasoline station along the Pori road very near of Ömossa, locates the Österback vägen and that small road is the heritage of Österback since I believe the history is very much in that area. I've confirmed hit of Alexander Michelsson Öman or Österback (gifted med Maja Lena Eriksdotter born 8.11.1833), born 5th of june 1827 and that's as far as I can go with that path. I was in connection to some researcher who knew the history of Österback in that region and he shared that someone somewhere has made a book which covers that part. Unfortunatelly my pc crashed and I lost all that information. I was wondering if anyone can help further with the history of Österback name ? Very much appreaciated, regards J.Backa från Kervo.

Both Sideby and Lappfjärd is within the same municipality.

Could it be these people;

Alexander b. 1827-06-08, line 10 from the top:

and Maja Lena b. 1833-11-08, line 5 from top:

Österback is farm nr.6 in Ömossa, located at the very place you describe. I agree with Stefan's conclusion earlier about the couples identity. Alexander and Maja Lena are noted as farmer and wife having moved to Österback in 1852, rows 18-19 here on p.253:

They have been married at that time. Neither is born there, Alexander is noted as coming from p.258, Bergvik nr.9 in Ömossa:

Alexander's parents here are the same as Stefan gave above, living on the Vikbäck torp in Lappfjärd some 20 years earlier, so that must be right.

Maja Lena again is noted as born in Lappfjärd, and in the listing of Sandvik nr.7 in Uttermossa are notes that Maja Lena has got married and moved out on 22(?)/11 1852, which again would confirm her identity:

So you need to look for your deeper ancestral roots at other places than in Österback in Ömossa.

The book you refer to might be Bottnisk Bygd by Gunnar Nybond, which covers the family trees of the Öman and Skogman families in Ömossa. Unfortunately neither of this couple seems to be descendants of these families. I also have copies of some other of Nybond's books, but I can't see them listed in the indexes of my books under any of the Österberg, Bergvik, Vikbäck or Sandvik names.

My ancestors who lived in Petalax, Nyby used the names Österback or Granholm. I think Österback was a fairly large area, and when people had to take surnames they either used that or another name associated with their family. Many Österbacks are not related to Granholm at all, while others, even within the same Granholm famiy, used the name Österback. This is the best I can do with trying to understand it. Of course Åmossa is very near Petalax.
